Brentford are to create their biggest ever programme against QPR on October 30 to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease. Former England forward Stan Bowles, who played for both teams during his 17-year professional career, is suffering from the disease. The Bees Review souvenir edition will be made up of 104 pages and a cut of each copy sold will be split between Stan Bowles' ongoing care needs and the Alzheimer's Society.magistashop

Bowles, 66, was diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer's in the summer. Queens Park Rangers recently held 'Stan Bowles Day' in honour of the playmaker, who is held in fond affection by both sets of supporters in west London. Lithuania 0 England 3: Easy-peasy does it

England wrote their name into the record books on a cold night in Lithuania, becoming the first Three Lions side to qualify for a major championships by winning every match. Roy Hodgson’s men reached the European Championship finals with three matches to spare – but ensured their final competitive fixture before next summer’s trip to France would be a memorable one. England’s 3-0 win was as comfortable as expected against a side ranked 116th in the world, with the triumph in Vilnius seeing them become just the sixth side ever to reach the Euro finals with a 100 per cent record. It was an impressive end to Group E by the Three Lions, who boasted a two-goal lead by half-time after Ross Barkley’s long-range effort deflected home and Harry Kane’s shot went in off Lithuania goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis. A fierce Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain added extra gloss to a scoreline that some inside the tiny LFF Stadium appeared to care little about, preferring instead to clash in the home end before and during the encounter. Kane, Barkley and Adam Lallana were the only players to retain their starting berth as Roy Hodgson named an experimental England side in Lithuania. The attacking trio were the only survivors from Friday’s European Championship qualifier against Estonia, with Phil Jagielka captaining the side in the absence of Wayne Rooney, Gary Cahill and Joe Hart. Jamie Vardy, Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Butland were amongst those brought in at the LFF Stadium, where uncapped Danny Ings was amongst the substitutes after injury ruled him out of Friday’s match.

Michael O'Neill yet to commit long-term future to Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland have not received any approach for manager Michael O'Neill, according to the Irish FA president Jim Shaw. O'Neill successfully guided Northern Ireland to qualification for Euro 2016 - the country's first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The former Hibernian midfielder, whose contract is due to expire after next year's European Championships in France, has since been linked with a number of jobs in England and Scotland. The 46 year-old is believed to want an improved long-term contract if he is to remain in charge of the national side, and Shaw suggested talks were still ongoing.End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

"Michael has done an excellent job, we could not have imagined how well we have done in the campaign and most of the credit for that goes to him," Shaw said. The Northern Ireland squad were given a rousing standing ovation on their return to their hotel led by Irish FA President Jim Shaw "We've had no contact from anybody regarding Michael, and all the rest of those issues will take care of themselves in a professional manner." The Green and White Army have never before qualified for the Euros and Shaw is hoping next summer's maiden appearance will raise Northern Ireland's standing in world football. "Something like this lifts the whole country in footballing terms," Shaw said.It gives us great recognition in European and world football, our first time in the Championship.

Manchester United's Paddy McNair still in Helsinki due to injury

Manchester United's Paddy McNair was injured in Northern Ireland's draw in Finland Manchester United defender Paddy McNair will spend a second night in Helsinki in order to have the abdominal injury he sustained in Northern Ireland's 1-1 draw with Finland assessed. The 20-year-old was injured in the 13th minute of Sunday's match, but played on until six minutes into the second half as Michael O'Neill's side claimed a point that saw them finish top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group F. McNair spent Sunday night in hospital and the Irish Football Association confirmed on Monday that he will remain in the Finnish capital for another night, with the IFA doctor staying out with him.Meanwhile, Oliver Norwood has highlighted the role that he believes has been played by former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in Northern Ireland's qualification for Euro 2016. Six of O'Neill's France-bound squad came through the ranks at Old Trafford, although only McNair is still with the club.End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

Jonny and Corry Evans, Norwood, Craig Cathcart and Luke McCullough all learned their trade under the Ferguson regime before moving on. "It might sound silly, but the United lads were brought up properly," said Reading midfielder Norwood. We worked under the regime of the best manager who's ever managed in football, Sir Alex Ferguson. What he passed through that club - to the youth team, to every academy boy - that's something we can look back on with pride. "We were all together there and now we're all together here at Northern Ireland. We were brought up in a proper football club, training every day with world-class players, but seeing they're just normal people. "I don't think you'll ever see a 'big time Charlie' coming out of that Manchester United system because it's not allowed there."

The Old Trafford effect has not been lost on manager O'Neill either. "There's a number of our players who have that same good grounding," he said. "They may have come away from Manchester United, but they've fought back from that disappointment and developed careers for themselves. "Some of them, like Cathcart, are back in Premier League and some are in the Championship, but now they're here performing on the international stage and they're going to get the chance to go to a major finals."

Ligue 1 round-up: Lyon suffer shock defeat to Bordeaux

End of Season discount soccer shoes , please clickWahbi Khazri opened the scoring for Bordeaux Bordeaux inflicted a shock 3-1 defeat on Lyon after a blistering first-half performance at the Stade Matmut Atlantique in Ligue 1 on Saturday. Wahbi Khazri opened the scoring in the 17th minute and his set-pieces led to goals for Jaroslav Plasil and Pablo shortly before half-time. Lyon, with star striker Alexandre Lacazette still troubled by a back injury and absent, lacked attacking impetus and could only manage Claudio Beavue's 78th-minute goal in reply.Rennes had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Troyes. The visitors, without a win in Ligue 1 this season, went ahead against the run of play through Jessy Pi's 11th-minute volley. Rennes remain unbeaten since the opening day of the campaign and always looked like getting an equalising goal. It came after 71 minutes when Fallou Diagne got to a cross ahead of goalkeeper Denis Petric to head the ball into an empty net. Rennes wanted a penalty late on after feeling his shirt was being pulled inside the area and as frustration boiled over, Yacouba Sylla was sent off in injury time following a second yellow card. Caen continued their strong home form with a 2-0 victory against Gazelec Ajaccio, who remain without a win this season. There were chances at both ends in an open start to the match but none were taken until the 28th minute when Ronny Rodelin headed the hosts in front. Caen kept up the pressure thereafter and a second goal seemed likely, although they had to wait for it. It came 10 minutes into the second half as Emmanuel Imorou applied a clinical finish to a cross at the far post to ensure the team from Normandy notched a third home win from four outings at Stade Michel d'Ornano. Bastia halted a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory against Toulouse.

Premier League is brilliantly unpredictable, says Ed Chamberlin

Ed Chamberlin celebrates the random nature of recent Premier League results The Premier League has always been brilliantly unpredictable, but has it ever been more unpredictable than this season? My Super 6 predictions certainly appear to be suffering even more than normal! There seem to be shocks every week, but nothing beats West Ham's triumph at Manchester City and in the process pulling off wins in their first three away games of the season at Anfield, the Emirates and the Etihad. Backing that hat-trick of away wins with Sky Bet would have netted you a tidy £1,120 from just £1! I thought he'd gone completely mad. West Ham's win at Man City continued their unlikely streak of results West Ham's win at Man City continued their unlikely streak of results That's another in a long line of good Premier League stories at the moment. Chelsea against Arsenal and the fall-out from the clash at Stamford Bridge has made the headlines all week, while the Jose Mourinho / Arsene Wenger rivalry will run all season. The north-east rivals are united with concern right now. Sunderland and Newcastle sit at the bottom of the table with only four points between them, and their odds for relegation are in freefall. Sunderland are already 1/5 for the drop, with Newcastle down to 5/4. Mark Hughes and Stoke find themselves in the bottom three, with the relegation betting unrecognisable already from the start of the season. More on that in a moment.

Premier League facing battle to keep four Champions League berths

The Premier league is facing a battle to hold onto its four allocated berths in the Champions League. UEFA's latest figures confirm Italy are breathing down England's neck in the contest for Champions League places next season. England's club coefficient ranking is 65.659 compared to Italy's 61.605, the Premier League's cause helped by bonus points being awarded for four English clubs in the Champions League group stages this season compared to two Italian ones - Roma and Juventus. However the rest of the season's ranking points will be determined by club performances in both the Europa League and the Champions League. The rankings reflect the poor start by English clubs in the Champions League - Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all lost their opening games - but wins for Chelsea and Tottenham, the latter in the Europa League, helped the English cause. Juventus won their opening Champions League match at Manchester City while Roma drew with holders Barcelona.

Marseille's Stade Velodrome to be partially closed after crowd trouble

Marseille have been punished for crowd trouble last weekend with a partial closure of their stadium for at least three weeks. Sunday's fixture against Lyon was suspended for over 20 minutes after missiles, including glass bottles, were thrown on to the Stade Velodrome pitch. With the visitors leading 1-0 thanks to Alexandre Lacazette's first-half penalty, referee Ruddy Buquet was forced to order both sets of players down the tunnel shortly after the hour mark as missiles began to rain down from a section of the crowd. As a result of the incident, two areas of Marseille's stadium will be closed off until October 15, when the French League's disciplinary committee will meet again to decide their next move. Sebastien Deneux, president of the disciplinary committee, told L'Equipe: "In view of the extreme seriousness of the facts - I remind you that glass bottles were launched and the match was interrupted twice - the disciplinary committee has decided to completely close two corners of the Stade Velodrome with immediate effect. "This is a precautionary measure pending the meeting on October 15, where final decisions will be taken."

Tottenham v Arsenal: Youngsters hoping for Capital One Cup chance

At 23, Tom Carroll is no novice but he's still looking to establish himself at White Hart Lane and can expect to feature having played the full 90 minutes in Tottenham's 3-1 Europa League victory over Qarabag on Thursday. Part of Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 squad at the European Championship in the summer, the midfielder is a reliable distributor of the ball but needs regular games to progress. Tom Carroll played the whole game for Spurs in Thursday's win over Qarabag Josh Onomah Part of England's European Under-17 Championship winners in 2014, Josh Onomah signed a four-year deal in the summer to ward off interest from Chelsea and Manchester City. The 18-year-old midfielder even has his own chant - based on a Muppets song - after appearing in an FA Cup win over Burnley last season. A first start can't be too far away.

Cristiano Ronaldo accompanies son of tripped refugee before Real Madrid v Granada

The son of the Syrian refugee tripped by a Hungarian journalist accompanied Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo onto the pitch before the team's La Liga win over Granada on Saturday. Benny Feilhaber scores twice to give Kansas City victory over FC Dallas

Benny Feilhaber scored twice for Kansas City against Dallas. FC Dallas missed the chance to move to the top of the Western Conference after losing 3-1 to Sporting Kansas City on Friday. Benny Feilhaber fired Kansas into the lead on 65 minutes from a free-kick and doubled their advantage from the penalty spot 11 minutes later. Victor Ulloa pulled a goal back for Dallas with 10 minutes left but Dom Dwyer restored Kansas' two-goal advantage three minutes later to snap their five-game winless run.

Dumbarton 1-2 Rangers: Martyn Waghorn double seals Rangers win

That was despite Garry Fleming scoring a penalty in the final minute to provide a late scare as the visitors held on to secure their seventh straight league victory. Rangers almost scored in the opening minute when Dominic Ball played the ball through to Gedion Zelalem but goalkeeper Mark Brown saved his effort. The hosts continued to frustrate Rangers and went close to scoring themselves, Fleming seeing his header come back off the post. Darren Barr also caused problems for the away defence but 'keeper Wes Foderingham kept his header out. Warburton's side began to reassert themselves before the break, with James Tavernier forcing a decent save from Brown, who tipped his shot over the crossbar. Gers midfielder Gedion Zelalem (second left) challenges Dumbarton goalkeeper Mark Brown Gers midfielder Gedion Zelalem (second left) challenges Dumbarton goalkeeper Mark Brown Tavernier then went even closer in first-half stoppage time as he hit the post with a free-kick that had Brown well beaten as Rangers continued to be frustrated. That frustration continued into the second half, with Andy Halliday denied by a last-ditch tackle before the same player just failed to connect with a header six yards out. The Light Blues kept up the pressure, though, and were duly rewarded on 64 minutes when Waghorn cut in from the right flank and fired home from 30 yards. Waghorn duly doubled his tally and Rangers' advantage on 73 when he fired his penalty past the despairing dive of Brown and into the bottom right corner after Buchanan had illegally denied Miller with the striker clean through on goal. It would have been 3-0 had it not been for a superb save from Brown as he pushed a curling 25-yard Halliday effort on to the post. Instead it was the hosts who scored from the spot after defender Danny Wilson had brought down Frazer Wright. Fleming drilled home the resulting spot-kick despite the best efforts of Foderingham in the Rangers goal but the Glasgow side held on to continue their 100 per cent start to the league season. League One round-up: Burton move top in first third-tier season

Walsall missed out on top spot themselves after 10-man Peterborough converted a late penalty to steal a 1-1 draw at London Road. Romaine Sawyers' fifth goal of the season put Walsall ahead and they looked to strengthen that lead when Posh midfielder Jermaine Anderson was sent off for violent conduct. But the Saddlers were denied their own sixth win from eight when Neil Etheridge fouled Callum Elder in the box and Michael Bostwick stepped up coolly to slot home the spot-kick in the 87th-minute. Overnight leaders Gillingham had a penalty saved as they went down 2-1 at Colchester. Gillingham striker Luke Norris cancelled out Gavin Massey's opener within the first seven minutes, before Callum Marriott restored the home side's lead just short of the half-hour mark. At the Ricoh Arena, Adam Armstrong fired his sixth goal of the season to secure Coventry a 1-0 win over in-form Chesterfield, who had substitute Mani Dieseruvwe sent off late on for a second bookable offence. Rochdale striker Joe Bunney fired his side into a 67th-minute lead at Spotland against Scunthorpe with his first goal since March and, although Murray Wallace headed the visitors level, Peter Vincenti struck in the 85th minute to clinch a 2-1 win for the hosts. Wigan held on to win 2-1 at home to Fleetwood thanks to goals from teenage striker Jordan Flores and Michael Jacobs. Fleetwood's teenage midfielder Tyler Hornby-Forbes had pulled one back with a fine free-kick. Bury defender Nathan Cameron headed a late winner in his side's 1-0 victory over Port Vale at Gigg Lane. Conor Hourihane's eighth-minute strike was not enough to give Barnsley victory as they were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool. The hosts hit back through Jack Redshaw early in the second period but slipped to the bottom of League One because of Crewe's first victory of the season.

Man City 1 West Ham 2: Citizens left in crisis

Manchester City have almost definitely been plunged into crisis after losing 2-1 against West Ham. The Hammers reprised their role as the most bizarre side in the Premier League this season by inflicting upon the leaders their first defeat of the season through goals from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho. A consolation strike from Kevin De Bruyne on his full debut could not quite rescue City’s unbeaten record, meaning West Ham have now defeated Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in their first three away games of this campaign, scoring seven goals and conceding just one in the process. Victory leaves Slaven Bilic’s side on 12 points from six games, just three behind City, for whom a second defeat in a week leaves them plunged deep into crisis mode.

Manchester City 1-2 West Ham United: City’s perfect start ruined as Bilic’s battlers take another massive scalp on the road

An early strike from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho’s bundled second were enough to claim another remarkable away victory for West Ham in a season that has already seen them humble Liverpool and Arsenal in their own back yards. City’s much-hyped record signing Kevin De Bruyne pulled one back just before the break but the men who had started the season with five straight Premier League victories had nothing to show for their second half onslaught. Moses did his parent club Chelsea a big favour by stunning the hosts with a sixth minute opener. When the West Ham loan man embarked on a run and was not challenged, he opened up his body and caught England goalkeeper Joe Hart cold with a shot that snuck in the near post from a good 25 yards. That was the first goal City had conceded in the league this season, sending a shockwave right through the Etihad Stadium. Even their brightest star Sergio Aguero was affected by this unexpected turn of events, as he shot wide after he’d given Adrian the slip just minutes later. He snatched at another chance when De Bruyne – making his first start for the club – did well to overlap Jesus Navas and cross. Pellegrini’s men looked hesitant at the back without club captain Vincent Kompany, and incredibly with half an hour on the clock, West Ham went two up. When Winston Reid nodded a corner towards goal, the ball was not cleared and Sakho bundled it into the net. But where Aguero seemed unable to finish, Manchester City’s £54m purchase, De Bruyne was able to weigh in with a crucial goal to close that gap in first half injury time. The Argentina forward showed great vision to keep the ball alive with a flick to his Belgian team-mate, who showed great control with his left foot before powering low to Adrian’s right to send them into the break 2-1 down. Although Sakho went close to netting a third for the visitors when he rounded Hart but stroked wide, the men in sky blue did make their inevitable second-half onslaught. First Raheem Sterling freed Yaya Toure, whose chipped effort was repelled by the onrushing Adrian, then on the hour mark Aguero was felled by Winston Reid in the box, but penalty appeals were waved away. Then Toure turned smartly to shoot wide and Adrian blocked a cross from Navas as the home side threw the kitchen sink at the Hammers.

Henderson breaks foot, faces two month lay-off

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson faces around two months out after suffering a broken foot in a ‘freak accident’ in training. Henderson has been out injured since the victory over Bournemouth last month, and had traveled to America in order to help aid his recovery from a heel problem. But the Reds captain has suffered a major setback after breaking his foot in an incident unrelated to said injury in training. The 25-year-old now faces around two months on the sidelines after what the Daily Mail have described as a ‘freak accident’, with Henderson likely to undergo surgery on the broken bone in his right foot early next week.

Stoke 2-2 Leicester: Foxes miss out on pizza

Stoke must reflect on a great opportunity missed to get a monkey off their back as they remain winless and in the relegation zone. They had settled into the game quickly and went 1-0 up when Marko Arnautovic deftly turned away from Ritchie De Laet on the left flank, cut inside and delivered a wonderful through ball for Bojan. The Spaniard stroked home his first goal of the season gleefully, his celebration showing his relief at being back on the scoresheet after the nightmare he has endured since sustaining a serious knee injury in January. Soon after, Stoke had another goal. Ex-Potters man Robert Huth allowed Jack Butland’s long kick upfield to bounce past him and Morgan then made a complete hash of an attempt to play the ball back to his goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Walters, who had dashed past Huth, seized on the loose ball and side-footed in – a moment for him to savour, coming on his return to the matchday squad after a second bid for him from Norwich was rejected. Stoke were almost in again as Walters and Marco van Ginkel just failed to touch in a Geoff Cameron cross, before Butland produced a great save to turn N’Golo Kante’s shot around the post. Things suddenly became less comfortable for Stoke shortly after the restart as Arnautovic bundled over Danny Drinkwater and Mahrez fired in the resulting penalty, his fifth goal of the season. The in-form Butland then pulled off another fine stop to keep out Vardy’s shot before Xherdan Shaqiri fired across Schmeichel’s goal. Vardy then drew things level with his fourth goal of the season, holding off Erik Pieters and scuffing a shot beyond Butland. Stoke threatened again as Cameron headed wide and Schmiechel kept out a Shaqiri free-kick. Vardy then almost won it at the death but his shot went narrowly wide.

Danny Welbeck out for three more weeks, Arsene Wenger says

Danny Welbeck is still "at least three weeks" away from fitness, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The striker has been out since April, when he suffered a knee injury that kept him out of Arsenal's FA Cup final victory a month later. And Wenger's latest prognosis would appear to rule him out of England's European Qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland at the start of September. Liverpool could spoil Bournemouth's big day, if visitors aren't clinical, says Jamie Redknapp

When I was playing for Bournemouth, I’d never have believed that one day they would be in the Premier League. To see them preparing to go to Liverpool on Monday Night Football is incredible. It’s dreamland stuff for the club and the fans. Manager Eddie Howe and owner Maxim Demin have done such a great job in transforming the club from one on the brink of bankruptcy to playing in England’s top flight. And Monday, at Anfield, will be a really special occasion. I can’t
wait.

Benteke Must Hit The Ground Running

Everyone Saturday afternoon football, Super Sunday, Monday Night Football, Sports Report, Match of the Day, football stickers, league table wallcharts, accumulators, fantasy football, prediction competitions, new season optimism, Winners and Losers, night matches, volleys, overhead kicks, new signings, outfield players in goal, expectations of success, hopes of promotion, dreams of Wembley. If you sleep on Friday night then you're not excited enough. Wayne Rooney One of the consequences of Manchester United finally fixing their central midfield after five years of neglect is that it caused the eye to wander to other areas of the squad. It turned out those weren't all in rude health. Central defence and the goalkeeping situation needs work, but the main concern should be on United's strikers. Or should that be striker? This really is a massive season for Wayne Rooney. With Javier Hernandez unwanted, Memphis Depay untested (and best out wide) and James Wilson unproven, the responsibility falls on Rooney to once again become United's top scorer. Pedro may provide the pace that Louis van Gaal has demanded so publicly, but he won't play through the middle. "I have no doubts in myself," was Rooney's reaction to the considerable faith shown in him by Van Gaal. "I have no doubts that I can do it again and I am ready to take on that mantle again and be the one who gets the goals for this team." United fans will hope that such confidence is not misplaced. Rooney's form will be the crucial factor in deciding which position between fifth (yeah, I went there) and first United finish in. Anywhere But Wing-Back For Sterling...

When I first worked with him he was fast and could play wide, now he can play in a number of positions...he's one of the most tactically gifted players I have worked with; how he presses the ball, how he gets up to the ball and his technique is wonderful. He's more than pace. What he has got for a young player is responsibility on the pitch" - Brendan Rodgers. Such is Sterling's versatility - having played everywhere from right wing-back to centre-forward for Liverpool - his arrival at Manchester City presents his new coach with a variety of options. While the £49million man is unlikely to be asked to resume wing-back duties, Pellegrini will be weighing up plenty of other possibilities... Ready-made for right wing? Playing on the right in a 4-2-3-1 formation would be a good fit for Sterling and could also bring the best out of other key men at Manchester City. One of City's issues has been the conundrum of how to get the best from Sergio Aguero while retaining a solid defensive structure - a point made by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville in his Telegraph column. 'If you go to a 4-3-3, I believe you lose too much from Aguero's game,' claimed Neville. 'Aguero is not as effective without a strike partner. He thrives with support. The problem with this system is it leaves Aguero up front on his own which means he can become isolated.' That could be rather less of a factor given Sterling's interpretation of the role. While Jesus Navas favours hogging the touch-line, Sterling is able to play more of a roaming role - supporting his striker by running beyond him to good effect. Navas failed to score in 2,248 minutes of Premier League action last season and while the new arrival is far from prolific, this compares unfavourably with Sterling's scoring record of seven last term.

Chairman Dave King, who, along with his allies, gained control of the club in March, described the team as "very inadequate" last season and said some of the players who were out of contract had "failed miserably". The Ibrox club endured another season of off-field drama but while some players chose to hit back at King’s comments, McCulloch refused to join them. "I think we deserved it, all the players deserved it," the former Motherwell and Wigan player said. "The full dressing room, not just the players that were out of contract and not just the senior players.I think every single player deserved criticism and I think it was dressed up the wrong way in some quarters of the press that it was just the boys that were out of contract. You'll not get me moaning about that." The former Scotland international repeatedly described the campaign as a "car crash" but took responsibility for the shortcomings despite pointing to the exit of former manager Ally McCoist as the crucial moment when the season imploded. McCulloch added: "When Ally left, everything blew wide open. It was amazing the pressure he took off the players. "Stuart McCall gave us a lift but we fell well short in the play-off final." McCulloch was frustrated at being unable to air his thoughts in his final season but he believes his experience will stand him in good stead as he begins a new chapter of his career with Kilmarnock. And he is intent on looking back at the positives from his time with Rangers and the impressive trophy haul he managed to collect, especially under former boss Walter Smith.

Fifa crisis: Concacaf begins path to reform after scandal

It is easy to get confused at times by the various acronyms of football's continental confederations. But for a while now, it has been very clear what Concacaf stands for. And it certainly has not been good governance. The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football has been at the heart of the corruption crisis that has engulfed Fifa. And yet, surprising as it may seem to many, the governing body is now hoping to set an example when it comes to reforms. A brief reminder of Concacaf's summer so far. First its president, Jeffrey Webb, was arrested on corruption charges along with his vice-president Eduardo Li. Together with former Concacaf president Jack Warner, they were among 14 soccer officials and sports-marketing executives charged with paying or accepting more than $150m (£96m) in bribes and kickbacks over more than two decades related to the media and marketing rights for matches in Concacaf competitions. The FBI raided Concacaf's Miami base, and its general-secretary Enrique Sanz was provisionally banned by Fifa's ethics committee. Also indicted were Julio Rocha, a Fifa development officer from Nicaragua who had been inducted into Concacaf's Hall of Fame, and Aaron Davidson, the president of the sponsorship rights agency Traffic Sports USA - which worked with Concacaf. Meanwhile, it was revealed that former Concacaf general-secretary Chuck Blazer had pleaded guilty to several charges related to corruption in 2013, including arranging and agreeing to accept bribes to influence voting for countries hoping to host the 1998 and 2010 World Cups.

Danny Ings hopes to learn from Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool

He's an unbelievable striker," Ings said of Sturridge. "He is one of those players who has come through the ranks, he has not had it easy. Now he's here and he's established; he's a fantastic, talented football player I can learn from." England U21 international Ings, whose fee is set to be decided by tribunal, was attracting interest from across Europe ahead of the expiration of his contract with Burnley at the end of last season, but he insists Liverpool was the only place he wanted to be. Ings says his farewells to Burnley fans Ings says his farewells to Burnley fans "As soon as I knew that Liverpool were interested, it was a no-brainer," he told LFCTV. "It was the only club on my mind, to be fair. And now that it has happened, it's fantastic for me and my family. "It's a special club, everybody knows it. With all the history that's here...it's definitely a massive step in my career and I'm over the moon." Ings decided to turn down the chance to wear an iconic squad number and opted instead for No 28. "I had a chat with my agent and a few friends and we thought that moving to such a big club like this, you need to take all the pressure off yourself," he said.

Danny Ings hopes to learn from Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool

New Liverpool striker Danny Ings is looking forward to playing alongside Daniel Sturridge this season. Ings, 22, is eager to make his mark at Anfield after completing his move from Burnley last month and is keen to learn from England international Sturridge. Sturridge had an injury-hit campaign last term and scored just four goals, but was much more impressive the previous year as he netted 21 goals in a lethal partnership with Luis Suarez.

Jay Rodriguez scores twice on Southampton comeback

Jay Rodriguez scored twice on his first appearance for more than a year as Southampton were beaten 5-4 by Red Bull Leipzig. Rodriguez missed all of last season with a cruciate injury suffered in April 2014, but the England striker is now fit and on Saints' pre-season tour of Austria. And he marked his return to the pitch with two close-range finishes - one with his left foot, the other with his head - to add to goals from new signings Juanmi and Cedric Soares. He told the club website: "I’m happy about the minutes and the physical game what we had. We scored some great goals and the positive things were two goals and the first 45 minutes of Jay. "It was his first 45 minutes and he did well. He scored two good goals. That gives everyone a positive feeling about tonight and for sure the same for Jay. "Also we had the first goal of Juanmi, the first goal of Cedric Soares. A lot of positive things, and the result is not the most important."

Moore and Collins offered deals Hartlepool's new owner has offered manager Ronnie Moore and his assistant Sam Collins new long-term contracts.

Hartlepool's new owner has offered manager Ronnie Moore and his assistant Sam Collins new long-term contracts. Last Updated: 24/06/15 4:47pm Hartlepool's new owner has offered manager Ronnie Moore and his assistant Sam Collins new long-term contracts. Recruitment firm JPNG completed its takeover of the club on Monday and new chairman Gary Coxall has wasted little time in rewarding the management duo for the club's unlikely relegation escape last season. When asked what was at the top of his to-do list since replacing former chairman Ken Hodcroft, Coxall told the Hartlepool Mail: "A new contract, longer term, for Ronnie and Sam. Moore, who has had three spells as manager at Tranmere and two at Rotherham, replaced Paul Murray as Pools boss in December. The club were 10 points adrift of safety at one stage following Moore's arrival, but guaranteed their Football League status with a game to spare.

Port Vale snap up Grant Port Vale manager Rob Page has further bolstered his squad with the signing of former Crewe midfielder Anthony Grant.

Anthony will be a great addition to our squad and will really help strengthen the midfield area," said Page. "He has performed very well for Crewe over the last couple of years and we're delighted to have him on board as we head into the new season." Grant was a regular for Crewe since signing on a free transfer from Stevenage in the summer of 2013. He was runner up in the Alex's player of the year awards for last season, finishing only behind goalkeeper Ben Garratt. The former Chelsea trainee started 42 league games during the 2014/15 campaign and was outstanding in his side's 2-1 win at home to Vale last September. Grant has also had spells at Southend, Luton, Wycombe and Oldham. Promoted stories
