Ligue 1 round-up: Lyon suffer shock defeat to Bordeaux

End of Season discount soccer shoes , please clickWahbi Khazri opened the scoring for Bordeaux Bordeaux inflicted a shock 3-1 defeat on Lyon after a blistering first-half performance at the Stade Matmut Atlantique in Ligue 1 on Saturday. Wahbi Khazri opened the scoring in the 17th minute and his set-pieces led to goals for Jaroslav Plasil and Pablo shortly before half-time. Lyon, with star striker Alexandre Lacazette still troubled by a back injury and absent, lacked attacking impetus and could only manage Claudio Beavue's 78th-minute goal in reply.Rennes had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Troyes. The visitors, without a win in Ligue 1 this season, went ahead against the run of play through Jessy Pi's 11th-minute volley. Rennes remain unbeaten since the opening day of the campaign and always looked like getting an equalising goal. It came after 71 minutes when Fallou Diagne got to a cross ahead of goalkeeper Denis Petric to head the ball into an empty net. Rennes wanted a penalty late on after feeling his shirt was being pulled inside the area and as frustration boiled over, Yacouba Sylla was sent off in injury time following a second yellow card. Caen continued their strong home form with a 2-0 victory against Gazelec Ajaccio, who remain without a win this season. There were chances at both ends in an open start to the match but none were taken until the 28th minute when Ronny Rodelin headed the hosts in front. Caen kept up the pressure thereafter and a second goal seemed likely, although they had to wait for it. It came 10 minutes into the second half as Emmanuel Imorou applied a clinical finish to a cross at the far post to ensure the team from Normandy notched a third home win from four outings at Stade Michel d'Ornano. Bastia halted a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory against Toulouse.

Premier League is brilliantly unpredictable, says Ed Chamberlin

Ed Chamberlin celebrates the random nature of recent Premier League results The Premier League has always been brilliantly unpredictable, but has it ever been more unpredictable than this season? My Super 6 predictions certainly appear to be suffering even more than normal! There seem to be shocks every week, but nothing beats West Ham's triumph at Manchester City and in the process pulling off wins in their first three away games of the season at Anfield, the Emirates and the Etihad. Backing that hat-trick of away wins with Sky Bet would have netted you a tidy £1,120 from just £1! PREMIER LEAGUE - 26th Sep Man UtdvSunderland Manchester Utd1/5 Draw11/2 Sunderland12/1 FulhamvQPR Charlie Austin to Score and QPR to Win in 90 Mins4/1 Bet nowBet £5 get £20 free On the Sky Bet Premier League Preview show last week, Paul Merson fancied the Hammers' chances at City. I thought he'd gone completely mad. West Ham's win at Man City continued their unlikely streak of results West Ham's win at Man City continued their unlikely streak of results That's another in a long line of good Premier League stories at the moment. Chelsea against Arsenal and the fall-out from the clash at Stamford Bridge has made the headlines all week, while the Jose Mourinho / Arsene Wenger rivalry will run all season. The north-east rivals are united with concern right now. Sunderland and Newcastle sit at the bottom of the table with only four points between them, and their odds for relegation are in freefall. Sunderland are already 1/5 for the drop, with Newcastle down to 5/4. Mark Hughes and Stoke find themselves in the bottom three, with the relegation betting unrecognisable already from the start of the season. More on that in a moment.

Premier League facing battle to keep four Champions League berths

The Premier league is facing a battle to hold onto its four allocated berths in the Champions League. UEFA's latest figures confirm Italy are breathing down England's neck in the contest for Champions League places next season. England's club coefficient ranking is 65.659 compared to Italy's 61.605, the Premier League's cause helped by bonus points being awarded for four English clubs in the Champions League group stages this season compared to two Italian ones - Roma and Juventus. However the rest of the season's ranking points will be determined by club performances in both the Europa League and the Champions League. The rankings reflect the poor start by English clubs in the Champions League - Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all lost their opening games - but wins for Chelsea and Tottenham, the latter in the Europa League, helped the English cause. Juventus won their opening Champions League match at Manchester City while Roma drew with holders Barcelona.

Marseille's Stade Velodrome to be partially closed after crowd trouble

Marseille have been punished for crowd trouble last weekend with a partial closure of their stadium for at least three weeks. Sunday's fixture against Lyon was suspended for over 20 minutes after missiles, including glass bottles, were thrown on to the Stade Velodrome pitch. With the visitors leading 1-0 thanks to Alexandre Lacazette's first-half penalty, referee Ruddy Buquet was forced to order both sets of players down the tunnel shortly after the hour mark as missiles began to rain down from a section of the crowd. As a result of the incident, two areas of Marseille's stadium will be closed off until October 15, when the French League's disciplinary committee will meet again to decide their next move. Sebastien Deneux, president of the disciplinary committee, told L'Equipe: "In view of the extreme seriousness of the facts - I remind you that glass bottles were launched and the match was interrupted twice - the disciplinary committee has decided to completely close two corners of the Stade Velodrome with immediate effect. "This is a precautionary measure pending the meeting on October 15, where final decisions will be taken."

Tottenham v Arsenal: Youngsters hoping for Capital One Cup chance

At 23, Tom Carroll is no novice but he's still looking to establish himself at White Hart Lane and can expect to feature having played the full 90 minutes in Tottenham's 3-1 Europa League victory over Qarabag on Thursday. Part of Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 squad at the European Championship in the summer, the midfielder is a reliable distributor of the ball but needs regular games to progress. Tom Carroll played the whole game for Spurs in Thursday's win over Qarabag Josh Onomah Part of England's European Under-17 Championship winners in 2014, Josh Onomah signed a four-year deal in the summer to ward off interest from Chelsea and Manchester City. The 18-year-old midfielder even has his own chant - based on a Muppets song - after appearing in an FA Cup win over Burnley last season. A first start can't be too far away.

Benny Feilhaber scores twice to give Kansas City victory over FC Dallas

Benny Feilhaber scored twice for Kansas City against Dallas. FC Dallas missed the chance to move to the top of the Western Conference after losing 3-1 to Sporting Kansas City on Friday. Benny Feilhaber fired Kansas into the lead on 65 minutes from a free-kick and doubled their advantage from the penalty spot 11 minutes later. Victor Ulloa pulled a goal back for Dallas with 10 minutes left but Dom Dwyer restored Kansas' two-goal advantage three minutes later to snap their five-game winless run.

Dumbarton 1-2 Rangers: Martyn Waghorn double seals Rangers win

That was despite Garry Fleming scoring a penalty in the final minute to provide a late scare as the visitors held on to secure their seventh straight league victory. Rangers almost scored in the opening minute when Dominic Ball played the ball through to Gedion Zelalem but goalkeeper Mark Brown saved his effort. The hosts continued to frustrate Rangers and went close to scoring themselves, Fleming seeing his header come back off the post. Darren Barr also caused problems for the away defence but 'keeper Wes Foderingham kept his header out. Warburton's side began to reassert themselves before the break, with James Tavernier forcing a decent save from Brown, who tipped his shot over the crossbar. Gers midfielder Gedion Zelalem (second left) challenges Dumbarton goalkeeper Mark Brown Gers midfielder Gedion Zelalem (second left) challenges Dumbarton goalkeeper Mark Brown Tavernier then went even closer in first-half stoppage time as he hit the post with a free-kick that had Brown well beaten as Rangers continued to be frustrated. That frustration continued into the second half, with Andy Halliday denied by a last-ditch tackle before the same player just failed to connect with a header six yards out. The Light Blues kept up the pressure, though, and were duly rewarded on 64 minutes when Waghorn cut in from the right flank and fired home from 30 yards. Waghorn duly doubled his tally and Rangers' advantage on 73 when he fired his penalty past the despairing dive of Brown and into the bottom right corner after Buchanan had illegally denied Miller with the striker clean through on goal. It would have been 3-0 had it not been for a superb save from Brown as he pushed a curling 25-yard Halliday effort on to the post. Instead it was the hosts who scored from the spot after defender Danny Wilson had brought down Frazer Wright. Fleming drilled home the resulting spot-kick despite the best efforts of Foderingham in the Rangers goal but the Glasgow side held on to continue their 100 per cent start to the league season. League One round-up: Burton move top in first third-tier season

Walsall missed out on top spot themselves after 10-man Peterborough converted a late penalty to steal a 1-1 draw at London Road. Romaine Sawyers' fifth goal of the season put Walsall ahead and they looked to strengthen that lead when Posh midfielder Jermaine Anderson was sent off for violent conduct. But the Saddlers were denied their own sixth win from eight when Neil Etheridge fouled Callum Elder in the box and Michael Bostwick stepped up coolly to slot home the spot-kick in the 87th-minute. Overnight leaders Gillingham had a penalty saved as they went down 2-1 at Colchester. Gillingham striker Luke Norris cancelled out Gavin Massey's opener within the first seven minutes, before Callum Marriott restored the home side's lead just short of the half-hour mark. At the Ricoh Arena, Adam Armstrong fired his sixth goal of the season to secure Coventry a 1-0 win over in-form Chesterfield, who had substitute Mani Dieseruvwe sent off late on for a second bookable offence. Rochdale striker Joe Bunney fired his side into a 67th-minute lead at Spotland against Scunthorpe with his first goal since March and, although Murray Wallace headed the visitors level, Peter Vincenti struck in the 85th minute to clinch a 2-1 win for the hosts. Wigan held on to win 2-1 at home to Fleetwood thanks to goals from teenage striker Jordan Flores and Michael Jacobs. Fleetwood's teenage midfielder Tyler Hornby-Forbes had pulled one back with a fine free-kick. Bury defender Nathan Cameron headed a late winner in his side's 1-0 victory over Port Vale at Gigg Lane. Conor Hourihane's eighth-minute strike was not enough to give Barnsley victory as they were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool. The hosts hit back through Jack Redshaw early in the second period but slipped to the bottom of League One because of Crewe's first victory of the season.

Man City 1 West Ham 2: Citizens left in crisis

Manchester City have almost definitely been plunged into crisis after losing 2-1 against West Ham. The Hammers reprised their role as the most bizarre side in the Premier League this season by inflicting upon the leaders their first defeat of the season through goals from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho. A consolation strike from Kevin De Bruyne on his full debut could not quite rescue City’s unbeaten record, meaning West Ham have now defeated Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in their first three away games of this campaign, scoring seven goals and conceding just one in the process. Victory leaves Slaven Bilic’s side on 12 points from six games, just three behind City, for whom a second defeat in a week leaves them plunged deep into crisis mode.

Manchester City 1-2 West Ham United: City’s perfect start ruined as Bilic’s battlers take another massive scalp on the road

An early strike from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho’s bundled second were enough to claim another remarkable away victory for West Ham in a season that has already seen them humble Liverpool and Arsenal in their own back yards. City’s much-hyped record signing Kevin De Bruyne pulled one back just before the break but the men who had started the season with five straight Premier League victories had nothing to show for their second half onslaught. Moses did his parent club Chelsea a big favour by stunning the hosts with a sixth minute opener. When the West Ham loan man embarked on a run and was not challenged, he opened up his body and caught England goalkeeper Joe Hart cold with a shot that snuck in the near post from a good 25 yards. That was the first goal City had conceded in the league this season, sending a shockwave right through the Etihad Stadium. Even their brightest star Sergio Aguero was affected by this unexpected turn of events, as he shot wide after he’d given Adrian the slip just minutes later. He snatched at another chance when De Bruyne – making his first start for the club – did well to overlap Jesus Navas and cross. Pellegrini’s men looked hesitant at the back without club captain Vincent Kompany, and incredibly with half an hour on the clock, West Ham went two up. When Winston Reid nodded a corner towards goal, the ball was not cleared and Sakho bundled it into the net. But where Aguero seemed unable to finish, Manchester City’s £54m purchase, De Bruyne was able to weigh in with a crucial goal to close that gap in first half injury time. The Argentina forward showed great vision to keep the ball alive with a flick to his Belgian team-mate, who showed great control with his left foot before powering low to Adrian’s right to send them into the break 2-1 down. Although Sakho went close to netting a third for the visitors when he rounded Hart but stroked wide, the men in sky blue did make their inevitable second-half onslaught. First Raheem Sterling freed Yaya Toure, whose chipped effort was repelled by the onrushing Adrian, then on the hour mark Aguero was felled by Winston Reid in the box, but penalty appeals were waved away. Then Toure turned smartly to shoot wide and Adrian blocked a cross from Navas as the home side threw the kitchen sink at the Hammers.

Henderson breaks foot, faces two month lay-off

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson faces around two months out after suffering a broken foot in a ‘freak accident’ in training. Henderson has been out injured since the victory over Bournemouth last month, and had traveled to America in order to help aid his recovery from a heel problem. But the Reds captain has suffered a major setback after breaking his foot in an incident unrelated to said injury in training. The 25-year-old now faces around two months on the sidelines after what the Daily Mail have described as a ‘freak accident’, with Henderson likely to undergo surgery on the broken bone in his right foot early next week.

Stoke 2-2 Leicester: Foxes miss out on pizza

Stoke must reflect on a great opportunity missed to get a monkey off their back as they remain winless and in the relegation zone. They had settled into the game quickly and went 1-0 up when Marko Arnautovic deftly turned away from Ritchie De Laet on the left flank, cut inside and delivered a wonderful through ball for Bojan. The Spaniard stroked home his first goal of the season gleefully, his celebration showing his relief at being back on the scoresheet after the nightmare he has endured since sustaining a serious knee injury in January. Soon after, Stoke had another goal. Ex-Potters man Robert Huth allowed Jack Butland’s long kick upfield to bounce past him and Morgan then made a complete hash of an attempt to play the ball back to his goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Walters, who had dashed past Huth, seized on the loose ball and side-footed in – a moment for him to savour, coming on his return to the matchday squad after a second bid for him from Norwich was rejected. Stoke were almost in again as Walters and Marco van Ginkel just failed to touch in a Geoff Cameron cross, before Butland produced a great save to turn N’Golo Kante’s shot around the post. Things suddenly became less comfortable for Stoke shortly after the restart as Arnautovic bundled over Danny Drinkwater and Mahrez fired in the resulting penalty, his fifth goal of the season. The in-form Butland then pulled off another fine stop to keep out Vardy’s shot before Xherdan Shaqiri fired across Schmeichel’s goal. Vardy then drew things level with his fourth goal of the season, holding off Erik Pieters and scuffing a shot beyond Butland. Stoke threatened again as Cameron headed wide and Schmiechel kept out a Shaqiri free-kick. Vardy then almost won it at the death but his shot went narrowly wide.
