Lithuania 0 England 3: Easy-peasy does it

England wrote their name into the record books on a cold night in Lithuania, becoming the first Three Lions side to qualify for a major championships by winning every match. Roy Hodgson’s men reached the European Championship finals with three matches to spare – but ensured their final competitive fixture before next summer’s trip to France would be a memorable one. England’s 3-0 win was as comfortable as expected against a side ranked 116th in the world, with the triumph in Vilnius seeing them become just the sixth side ever to reach the Euro finals with a 100 per cent record. It was an impressive end to Group E by the Three Lions, who boasted a two-goal lead by half-time after Ross Barkley’s long-range effort deflected home and Harry Kane’s shot went in off Lithuania goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis. A fierce Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain added extra gloss to a scoreline that some inside the tiny LFF Stadium appeared to care little about, preferring instead to clash in the home end before and during the encounter. Kane, Barkley and Adam Lallana were the only players to retain their starting berth as Roy Hodgson named an experimental England side in Lithuania. The attacking trio were the only survivors from Friday’s European Championship qualifier against Estonia, with Phil Jagielka captaining the side in the absence of Wayne Rooney, Gary Cahill and Joe Hart. Jamie Vardy, Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Butland were amongst those brought in at the LFF Stadium, where uncapped Danny Ings was amongst the substitutes after injury ruled him out of Friday’s match.

Michael O'Neill yet to commit long-term future to Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland have not received any approach for manager Michael O'Neill, according to the Irish FA president Jim Shaw. O'Neill successfully guided Northern Ireland to qualification for Euro 2016 - the country's first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The former Hibernian midfielder, whose contract is due to expire after next year's European Championships in France, has since been linked with a number of jobs in England and Scotland. The 46 year-old is believed to want an improved long-term contract if he is to remain in charge of the national side, and Shaw suggested talks were still ongoing.End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

"Michael has done an excellent job, we could not have imagined how well we have done in the campaign and most of the credit for that goes to him," Shaw said. The Northern Ireland squad were given a rousing standing ovation on their return to their hotel led by Irish FA President Jim Shaw "We've had no contact from anybody regarding Michael, and all the rest of those issues will take care of themselves in a professional manner." The Green and White Army have never before qualified for the Euros and Shaw is hoping next summer's maiden appearance will raise Northern Ireland's standing in world football. "Something like this lifts the whole country in footballing terms," Shaw said.It gives us great recognition in European and world football, our first time in the Championship.

"There will be revenue attached to it as well of course. It's not easy to put a number on it but looking at the previous tournament as a guide, it will be a substantial amount of money. "If you have success at the tournament itself the revenue stream goes up again. We have also jumped to 35 in the world rankings, which is incredible and should make it easier to get friendlies.

Manchester United's Paddy McNair still in Helsinki due to injury

Manchester United's Paddy McNair was injured in Northern Ireland's draw in Finland Manchester United defender Paddy McNair will spend a second night in Helsinki in order to have the abdominal injury he sustained in Northern Ireland's 1-1 draw with Finland assessed. The 20-year-old was injured in the 13th minute of Sunday's match, but played on until six minutes into the second half as Michael O'Neill's side claimed a point that saw them finish top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group F. McNair spent Sunday night in hospital and the Irish Football Association confirmed on Monday that he will remain in the Finnish capital for another night, with the IFA doctor staying out with him.Meanwhile, Oliver Norwood has highlighted the role that he believes has been played by former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in Northern Ireland's qualification for Euro 2016. Six of O'Neill's France-bound squad came through the ranks at Old Trafford, although only McNair is still with the club.End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

Jonny and Corry Evans, Norwood, Craig Cathcart and Luke McCullough all learned their trade under the Ferguson regime before moving on. "It might sound silly, but the United lads were brought up properly," said Reading midfielder Norwood. We worked under the regime of the best manager who's ever managed in football, Sir Alex Ferguson. What he passed through that club - to the youth team, to every academy boy - that's something we can look back on with pride. "We were all together there and now we're all together here at Northern Ireland. We were brought up in a proper football club, training every day with world-class players, but seeing they're just normal people. "I don't think you'll ever see a 'big time Charlie' coming out of that Manchester United system because it's not allowed there."

The Old Trafford effect has not been lost on manager O'Neill either. "There's a number of our players who have that same good grounding," he said. "They may have come away from Manchester United, but they've fought back from that disappointment and developed careers for themselves. "Some of them, like Cathcart, are back in Premier League and some are in the Championship, but now they're here performing on the international stage and they're going to get the chance to go to a major finals."

Ligue 1 round-up: Lyon suffer shock defeat to Bordeaux

End of Season discount soccer shoes , please clickWahbi Khazri opened the scoring for Bordeaux Bordeaux inflicted a shock 3-1 defeat on Lyon after a blistering first-half performance at the Stade Matmut Atlantique in Ligue 1 on Saturday. Wahbi Khazri opened the scoring in the 17th minute and his set-pieces led to goals for Jaroslav Plasil and Pablo shortly before half-time. Lyon, with star striker Alexandre Lacazette still troubled by a back injury and absent, lacked attacking impetus and could only manage Claudio Beavue's 78th-minute goal in reply.Rennes had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Troyes. The visitors, without a win in Ligue 1 this season, went ahead against the run of play through Jessy Pi's 11th-minute volley. Rennes remain unbeaten since the opening day of the campaign and always looked like getting an equalising goal. It came after 71 minutes when Fallou Diagne got to a cross ahead of goalkeeper Denis Petric to head the ball into an empty net. Rennes wanted a penalty late on after feeling his shirt was being pulled inside the area and as frustration boiled over, Yacouba Sylla was sent off in injury time following a second yellow card. Caen continued their strong home form with a 2-0 victory against Gazelec Ajaccio, who remain without a win this season. There were chances at both ends in an open start to the match but none were taken until the 28th minute when Ronny Rodelin headed the hosts in front. Caen kept up the pressure thereafter and a second goal seemed likely, although they had to wait for it. It came 10 minutes into the second half as Emmanuel Imorou applied a clinical finish to a cross at the far post to ensure the team from Normandy notched a third home win from four outings at Stade Michel d'Ornano. Bastia halted a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory against Toulouse.
