Gerrard The Elephant In The Room

I know that Liverpool supporters everywhere are depressed after going out to Aston Villa managed by a man who once decided he could manage better from the stands than on the touch line, but life goes on.
The call for Rodgers is knee jerk and ignorant. Liverpool's woes are down to growing pains for both manager and ownership. Liverpool received a boat load of cash in the summer when losing Suarez and put all their eggs in one basket trying to replace a Suarez (with Sanchez) when in reality all they needed was another Sturridge.
It is fair to target Rodgers success in the transfer market at this point, his ability to makes players better is there for all to see. Next season Liverpool will already be in a better position with the arrival for Origi because he is the type of player that can come in to Sturridge's roll. While Origi hasn't lit up the French league this year, it's hard to argue that Rodgers won't help him reach the next level given what his coaching and management has done for Coutinho, Sterling, Suarez, and Sturridge.
I also feel the holes in which Liverpool need to fill are much more transparent than last year. And while some may panic over Sterling's future they have a ready made replacement in Markovic. Selling Sterling right now may be the best for all parties involved, especially given his display against Villa yesterday.
It would be irresponsible of me to write a post Villa email and not mention the massive elephant in the room, Steven George Gerrard.
I place the semi final loss to Villa squarely at the feet of Gerrard. While it is Rodgers who chooses the players and picks the formation, one gets the feeling he didn't have a choice in the matter. The decision to move Gerrard from the front 3 to protector of the back 4 was the nail in the coffin. It was a tactical decision that has undermined Liverpool all season but with Gerrard so woefully ineffective in his starting role it was the only other option other than taking him off, which was never going to happen. Thankfully Rodgers will only have this dilemma for another 6 games.
Memories are short and I remember Liverpool seasons being over at the beginning of March during some of the Rafa years. This season has been entertaining with 2 semi-finals and a fighting shot at a Champions League spot. Chin up Liverpool fans football is a marathon not a sprint and we are well set up for the future.

I wrote into the mailbox this morning and referred to the man-beast that is Christian Benteke. However having read your profile piece on Jack Grealish and seeing the accompanying picture, I think its fair to say that the real Villa man-beast is their new no 10 schemer!
Get a jock-strap for heavens sake!

You Can't Be Serious
just finished reading the Winners and Losers article, and there are a few questions I have on it;
1) Why was Villa not in the winners section for a really good performance against Liverpool?
2) Chelsea actually went out the same stage as Arsenal and Man City (to be more technically they were the first ones out of them three)
Finally to my fellow United supporters, please stop moaning about Jose's tactics, we all knew that was how he was going to set them up and they nailed it to a T. Fair play to them they have been the better side all season and deserve their title...looking forward to next season and United bringing it back home (with the right signings made in the summer).
