Bored Of Big Sam? It's Your Right... West Ham fans will hear 'be careful what you wish for' every day for the next few weeks. Sod the pundits, it's okay to get sick of the middle of the road...

It was inevitable this weekend that, as news of Sam Allardyce's defenestration at West Ham broke, one proper football man after another put his head in front of a TV camera and said "be careful what you wish for, West Ham fans". You were 'guaranteed' to stay up next season under Sam, and now you're not, apparently. Oh. The words 'Newcastle' and 'Pardew' were invoked to prove the veracity of their defence of English managers targeted by fans, seemingly forgetting some of the tremendous wallopings Newcastle suffered during his tenure. Football isn't all about mere survival though, is it? Surely all that West Ham fans wished for is the removal of Allardyce; after that, who cares? It is perfectly justifiable to be sick of your manager and anyone who says otherwise by pointing to the league table and wagging their finger is out of touch with the day-to-day realities of supporting a football club. The defence of British mediocrity amongst British pundits - all of whom almost certainly know or would have to encounter the manager in their working or social life - is transparently born out of a mixture of self-interest and what also seems like instinctive, cultural xenophobia. As though he is being punished for not being foreign. It's all pure delusion. Is the point of a club playing football in the Premier League merely to 'survive'? Is being in the top flight in order to earn more money, in order to keep being in the top flight in order to earn more money, in order to stay in the top flight, really everything? If so, then it is pretty poor fare as a competition. At some point, you need some fun and part of the fun is having a manager you enjoy seeing on the local news two or three times a week. When they're a bit of a ****, it just annoys the hell out of you. This is much under-rated in football's self-analysis. Fans quickly tire of a man who is hard to like, even if he is a decent manager. Most clubs are never going to win anything, so all they've got is the weekly soap opera and part of that soap opera is a manager who doesn't make you shout at the TV too much or who at least entertains by abusing local journalists or by turning up for a presser clearly drunk. The manager is part of the entertainment package. A record of season after season of finishes in the bottom ten but never the bottom three is often presented as though it is brilliant, especially if it is the achievement of a British manager. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but eventually it does kill the fun. Trying to sell Allardyce as a man who can keep the club in the league just isn't enough. It should never be enough. Burnley fans are happy to keep Sean Dyche as manager, despite getting relegated, because of what he offers. Results are not everything, even if pundits can't seem to see beyond them when it's a mate of theirs. It also fails to appreciate that failure can be kind of exciting. I would wager Newcastle fans felt more joy from a final-day win than they would have done from the low monotonous hum of a predictable, steady mid-table finish. The glory or heartache games are the ones that we live for. Steady, safe and secure is boring. Nothing good ever happens in the middle of the road, all the fun is in the gutter. The threat of a new season being worse under a new manager is no threat at all, firstly because you might not be, but secondly because modern football is a 24/7 thing and you constantly need new characters to perform and entertain. Having the same sagging jowls in charge, season after season, is poor value entertainment. New is more exciting. A new manager will sell more season tickets. We all need constant reinvention and stimulation and the irony of it is that the manager who has just been sacked can also benefit from this when he replaces some tired old sap at another club. Allardyce will pop up somewhere else soon enough and he will do what he does all over again and then that club will tire of it too. He knows it, we all know it and we shouldn't be bothered about that in the slightest.

LIVERPOOL TARGET HAPPY IN SPAIN

Liverpool target Denis Cheryshev admits he’d be delighted to stay at Villarreal after the end of his loan spell at the La Liga club from Real Madrid. The Russian winger was last month linked with a summer move to Liverpool. He told AS: “I haven’t got a clue what might happen in the future. There are a lot of parties involved so it’s not easy to know what might occur. “If everybody involved reaches an agreement I’d be delighted to stay at Villarreal.” 16:22 VAN GAAL SLAMS WINDOW DATES Louis van Gaal has slammed the finish dates of the summer transfer window, admitting he attempted to change it many times. Manchester United believes the September 1 transfer window, which will be three weeks into the 2015/16 season, should be moved. "That’s ridiculous in my opinion," he said. “I have strived many times to change the transfer period. "It has to be finished before you prepare your team for the season. Last summer we had the World Cup and then a lot of players came late in. "We had a lot of purchase at the last month so we have to prepare our team in the Premier League and that costs us a lot of points. Now I hope we shall finish our business much earlier.” 15:51 WENGER ON SQUAD SIZE Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes squad size is crucial ahead of a potentially busy summer of transfer activity. With members of the current squad such as Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo having spent much of the current season on loan at Internazionale and Crystal Palace respectively, many expect there to be as many sales as purchases. Wenger said of the situation: "The squad is the right number but the competition is right, not too big because too big kills competition, too short kills competition as well, so we have to find the right number that is a fair competition." Asked if players had to go out before others could come in, Wenger added: "Chronologically you do not always decide that. Sometimes you have to decide 'okay, we have an opportunity, we do it and after we will see how we deal with the rest'." 15:32 WHY HUMMELS SNUBBED UNITED Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels snubbed Manchester United because the club took too long to 'firm up interest' in him, according to the Daily Mirror. The 26-year-old was initially keen on a move to the Premier League and Old Trafford, but is now looking to stay in Germany. United have been linked with the German international for over a year, but will look to turn their attention to other defensive targets this summer.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago says the door is open for Chelsea’s Filipe Luis to return to the Vicente Calderon.

Luis departed for Stamford Bridge last summer but has failed to earn a regular starting berth in west London, with Cesar Azpilicueta firmly established as Jose Mourinho’s first-choice left-back. The Brazilian has been tipped to head back to Atleti, where he won the league title last season, and Portuguese anchorman Tiago says the club would welcome the return of the defender. Speaking at a press conference, Tiago said: "We all know Filipe [Luis], I love him. If he's not happy he knows the doors here are open for him. These fans always love the players who have served the club well and I have no doubt at all that he would be well received.” 16:02 JUVE IN FOR LAMELA? Juventus are weighing up a move for struggling Tottenham forward Erik Lamela, according to the Daily Mail. Reports suggest the Serie A champions are looking to boost their forward ranks and see the Argentine as an ideal fit. Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be keen on keeping hold of the 23-year-old but should a substantial offer come in a deal could be struck. 15:42 WOLLSCHEID SIGNS FOR STOKE A reminder of the transfer news that broke yesterday evening with Stoke confirming the signing of Philipp Wollscheid on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell with the club. 15:34 ALVES HEADING FOR BARCA EXIT? Dani Alves looks set to leave Barcelona after ending contract talks, according to Cadena Ser. The Brazilian full-back, who has excelled this season, has just over one month left on his contract at the Camp Nou. Talks have been ongoing between the two parties for a while but Cadena Ser reports that discussions have now been broken off, with the 32-year-old believing he is worth more than the offer Barca had proposed to him. Alves, who potentially has just three matches left in a Barcelona shirt, is expected to hold a press conference next week to explain his decision and bid farewell to the club he has served since 2008.

It's Not All About The Money, Money, Money... The mainstream media likes us to believe that every footballer is obsessed with money, fast cars and slow women. Sometimes 'ambition' is not a byword for 'greed'...

Christian's set to teke Kop cash' is the headline on the back page of The Sun on Tuesday; 'CHRISTIAN BENTEKE is ready to force a double-your-money move to Liverpool' is the opening paragraph; by the third paragraph we're told what that means: £50,000 a week will become £100,000 on Merseyside. Elsewhere in seven pages of football coverage in The Sun, we are told that David De Gea will be offered £250,000 a week to stay at Manchester United, Raheem Sterling would earn £150,000 a week at Manchester City, Andre Ayew will cost West Ham £70,000 a week and James Milner will turn down £135,000 a week (or £165,000, depending on which claim you read) from City. In the news pages, we learn that Adam Johnson earns £60,000 a week; we're not told whether that makes his alleged offence more or less reprehensible. The newspaper narrative is that footballers are obsessed with money, fast cars and slow women, but maybe the real obsessives are in a media that asks 'how much?' before they ask 'how good?' or even 'why?'. Heard that Benteke wants to leave Aston Villa? How much does he earn? How much would he earn? Does the second figure handily add up to double the first? If it doesn't, then make it so. Oh and add in a 'force', so it sounds like he's not only greedy but unprincipled and slightly thuggish. There are footballers who have been genuinely motivated by money - Chris Waddle did not move to Marseille to work on his French verb conjugation and whenever anybody talks about footballers and money, some wag will mention Ashley Cole almost swerving his car off the road - but not every transfer, not every contract negotiation, not every desire to leave for every footballer is about money. That's simply what the mainstream media wants you to believe. "I don't talk about how many cars I'm going to drive, how many houses I've got. I just purely want to be the best I can be," said Raheem Sterling and the nation collectively shouted 'yeah right', encouraged by a coterie of Merseyside reporters and Liverpool legends who thought that the young man from Jamaica should know his place. 'Of course it's about money,' they said. After all, why else would any player want to leave their National Trust club? To play in the Champions League and challenge for trophies? Pah. As for Benteke, the intimation is that the Belgian would be leaving Villa for a bigger wage packet; he would 'teke Kop cash'. What he would also 'teke' is a far greater long-term chance of winning silverware, European football and a place at a club currently ten places above Villa in the league. Liverpool may not match Sterling's ambitions but they might well match those of Benteke. Meanwhile, Villa might find the relegated, ambitious Charlie Austin open to a move and QPR might replace him with Jordan Rhodes if he decides he is more than a mid-table Championship striker. And every player's move will be announced with an examination of what they did earn and what they will earn, as if that were the crux of the story. "Where is he going to go that is bigger than Aston Villa?" asked Tim Sherwood as rumours of a Benteke exit surfaced once again. It was eerily similar to Brendan Rodgers and his "if you say that Manchester City is a bigger club than Liverpool, you're wrong" nonsense. To arrogant men immersed in their clubs, the only possible reason for their players to leave is for money. After all, things are always about to get really, really brilliant any minute now. The clue that money is not always the motivation lies in this piece's second paragraph. De Gea is almost certain to turn down Manchester United's lucrative offer to play for Real Madrid, challenge for both La Liga and Champions League titles and live in his native Spain again, while Milner looks increasingly likely to take a wage cut in order to play more first-team football. But those examples will not stop anybody lumping every footballer in a box labelled 'greedy b***ards'.

16 Conclusions: Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal This was not an afternoon to be impressed by either side, but Ander Herrera at least continued his fine form. Arsenal really need to get a better striker. Sorry Olly...

In the build-up to Sunday's match at Old Trafford, Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal both spoke of the need to make a statement regarding next season's ambitions. Against a top four rival, this was an opportunity to put down a marker. "We feel we have made progress," said Wenger. "But we have a good opportunity to show that on Sunday because in every game that is questioned. That is what is at stake until the end of the season, to show that we can be stronger next year." If that was the intention, it fell spectacularly short. United dominated the first half and Arsenal had decent spells after the break, finishing stronger. However, both teams were assisted more by the other's deficiencies than through their own excellence. As an indicator of just how easy both sides seemed to take the match, there was no yellow card issued until Ander Herrera cynically broke up play in stoppage time. Imagine such a scenario in the days of Neville vs Reyes, Keown vs Van Nistelrooy and Keane vs Vieira. Given the air of 'just not quite' to both clubs' seasons, the apparent lack of desire to push home any advantage seemed odd, and was disappointing. The instant retort is that this was a nothing game with very little to play for. That's partly true, but this game was only meaningless because both teams were so far behind Jose Mourinho's Chelsea with two games left. The immediate conclusion from Manchester United vs Arsenal: Chelsea will take some catching next season. * Van Gaal used his programme notes to reiterate that his is a mission only partly accomplished. United are not a club for whom a top four finish is enough. They have finished behind neighbours City for the second season in a row for the first time in 37 years. 'I know for a club of this stature that finishing fourth in the Premier League is not something to celebrate,' Van Gaal wrote. 'But I hope you will agree that it is a step in the right direction to getting this club back to competing at the highest level, both domestically and in European competition.' That's true, and further improvement is needed if Van Gaal is to be given another rumoured £150m transfer budget this summer. Make a serious title challenge next season, finishing in the top two and reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. Win the title in 2016/17. Those must surely be the realistic aims? * The game started in bitty fashion, with neither side able to enjoy possession for more than 10 or 15 seconds at a time. United soon moved onto the front foot, however, with Juan Mata's reverse ball putting Radamel Falcao through for the first chance of the game. Nacho Monreal got back to block the Colombian's shot from a tight angle. From the resultant corner, Chris Smalling also had a shot blocked, this time by Hector Bellerin. Arsenal then fell into a rut, completely unable to hold onto the ball. They seemed to lack all confidence in their own game, too often launching the ball into the channels for Olivier Giroud to run onto. That's far from his strong point. The first half almost completely passed Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil by, the pair completing 19 passes between them in 45 minutes. Sanchez in particular struggled, appearing fatigued and wholly unable to influence play. The Chilean prides himself on being the livewire in Arsenal's side, hounding the opposition in possession and dictating play. Sanchez completed six passes in the first half, and had as many touches of the ball as David Ospina. He won possession just four times, but lost the ball on 11 occasions before the break. * Has a player's career ever been more perfectly summed up in a few seconds than by Phil Jones' desperate crawl across the Old Trafford turf in an attempt to clear the ball?

Football People On TV: Alan McInally He's a popular Scottish RFM (the upgrade of the PFM), so Alan McInally was always going to be welcomed into Johnny and Al's Football People On TV hall of fame...

John Nicholson and Alan Tyers wake up naked, in a motel out on Highway 61, sit bolt upright and wonder what deal they have struck with the devil in order to be looking at football people on the TV. This week they feel all girly in the presence of Alan McInally. Fashion Police Solid. Male. Unflashy. When shopping he clearly makes a beeline to the clothes marked 'Men's Fashion'. Retail culture dictates that any clothes defined as 'fashion' are not actually fashionable and that suits Macca just fine. His clothes belong to no specific era. They exist and that is the most we can say about them. Jackets are plain, dark and wide of shoulder. Shirts are white or grey. Ties are indistinct, offering a stripe at their most outlandish. Not a square inch of Alan's clothing offers any opportunity to be accused of being a foppish metrosexual. Would favour dark slacks with a high polyester content and would not have any shame about that. May even wear brown and not in a post-post-modern normcore fashion, either. The sort of admirable chap who one would see in the pub at 5.31pm, tie loosened, top button undone, sinking a pint in five seconds and ordering another before he's finished the first. Lingo Bingo As a man from Ayr whose middle name is Bruce, he is surprisingly comprehensible to people from anywhere else. Has a touch of the west of Scotland poet about him and is certainly never short of a scathing remark if needed. Comments are often delivered with a roguish twinkle in the eye and a degree of amusement. Once made the papers because he said "shite" instead of "shot". Yeah. Really. Does tend to get tongue-tied on occasions and can cut a strangely isolated figure when asked to sit and watch the live game which is on BT, separate from "the boys". In these moments he appears to be the keen student who has been thrown out of class for some indiscretion involving drawing a cartoon of the teacher's genitals. Hits And Misses Yer Mac has been on Sky for years now, so he's a perennial good performer who is approved of by all and sundry. He's managed to avoid the Andy Gray or Rodney Marsh-style sackable gaffs, which surely is quite an achievement when you come from a background that is many, many cultural miles from the latte-drinking, hand-crafted, artisinal bearded London kidult, 21st century media culture toss-pot who has somehow become the definer of public taste and decency. However, we note that he does not dine at the top pundit table. He's a much-used substitute on Soccer Saturday and always a welcome and massive presence. But more often he is stuck on a gantry watching Sunderland hurt 48,000 people's eyes on a cold afternoon with a look of granite in his eyes.

16 Conclusions: Champions League Semi-Final Second Legs The new selfless Luis Suarez, more torture for Gareth Bale, magnificence from Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Marcelo and Carlo Ancelotti for City. Lots of conclusions...

It's impossible not to admire the change in Barcelona, and give Luis Enrique the credit for the turnaround in their season. On November 3, his side were in fourth place in La Liga and second place in their Champions League group behind Paris St Germain. What followed was a run of 42 matches in which Enrique's side won 38, drew two and lost two. Almost everyone has been flattened by this Barcelona machine. They may have lost in the Allianz Arena, but Bayern were continuously held at arm's length Having feared for his job six months ago, Enrique is now aiming for the treble in his first season. "Mission accomplished," he told reporters. "Our next objective is to be European champions. This result does not bother me because the Bavarians have a strong team. We're one win away from winning each of the three competitions. That is our mission." Barca would also become the first club ever to complete the treble of domestic league, domestic cup and European Cup on more than one occasion. Can you create a legacy in just one season? * It was the overlooked part of Luis Suarez's game at Liverpool. Everyone was so understandably enraptured by the striker's goal record that we forgot to notice how superb he was as a support striker too. Last season in the Premier League, Suarez had 152 shots, 67 more than any other Liverpool player. His policy became to shoot on sight, and often very successfully. The goals against Norwich City at Anfield will last long in the memory. However, he also created 87 chances in the league last season, 19 more than any of his teammates and 58 more than Daniel Sturridge. Suarez's tendency to shoot rather than pass at Anfield is actually a complete misnomer. Being the top scorer and top creator for a team towards the top of the league is an honour reserved only for the very best. Only Eden Hazard and Samir Nasri created more chances in the entire league. Not bad for a striker with ten more goals than anyone else. It is that element of Suarez's game which has been most impressive at Barcelona. The forward has had to suffer the inevitable loss of personal standing that comes with playing alongside Lionel Messi, but the transition has been close to seamless. Particularly given that the Uruguayan was banned until October. Despite him being part of an attack that has scored 107 goals in 36 La Liga games, Suarez's shots per game have reduced from 5.5 last season to 2.8 this, a drop of almost 50%. Instead he has turned provider as much as goalscorer - only two players in Spain have more assists (Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, predictably). Suarez is one behind Ronaldo, on 14. On Tuesday evening, Suarez became the first Barcelona player to assist two goals in the same Champions League match this season, and didn't even attempt a single shot at the Allianz. Gone is the time when that would frustrate him intensely. Seventeen of Suarez's 20 assists for Barcelona in all competitions have been to Messi (9) and Neymar (8). Those who doubted his ability to quickly assimilate himself into life at the Camp Nou have had their fears firmly allayed. * It may not have been a good night for German football, but there was one aspect to please the locals. Die Mannschaft can already boast the best goalkeeper in the world, but on Tuesday Manuel Neuer was upstaged by his opposite number. Marc-Andre ter Stegen had one of his best games on the biggest stage of all.

Does Buying Players From Italy Work? There's all this fuss about Paul Pogba but when does buying players from Serie A ever go well? We have a varied mailbox with views on Arsenal, Liverpool and...

This is good. Make Wednesday just as good by mailing theeditor@football365.com Arsenal Fans: Knobs Oh no, I have had a nasty epiphany. I was going to write in with a long defence of Ramsey, Giroud, the team that has been in fantastic form until last night's blip, about how there are still great signs of progress this season, that no team can win every game, etc. But, in formulating said email, it dawned on me that the real problem is that Arsenal fans can be right knobs. I sort of get what you all mean now. Jaimie (self-hating Arsenal fan) Kaffash, AFC, London What's With All The Navel-Gazing? Wow Loyd (Maybe it's the liquor talking and I'll feel differently tomorrow) ex-Arsenal devotee what on earth were you drinking, gin? Each pre-match ritual to its own I guess but pining over lost loves just before kick-off is a new one on me. Interesting reaction from Arsenal fans on the whole in today's mailbox although there is a groundhog day feel to these every time you lose. Ok Giroud didn't have a great game but he's a very good player for you and integral to your game. He seems to be the go to whipping boy whenever you have a bad result and I can sort of see why, (after all he isn't Henry or Van Persie) but it wasn't him pinging tame shots straight at Fabianski all day long. Seriously, how many of those saves were top bag? That wasn't a game of sterile domination - you carved out a ton of chances but rushed finishing let you down on the night. It happens and before you get all navel gazey about it happening to Arsenal more than most, that hasn't actually been the case for the most part of this season. On the future of football's soul, since when did we get so precious about away teams defending against superior teams? Pretty sure until a couple of years ago only a few teams would dare to go to Old Trafford and try and beat them at their own game, don't remember the moral outcry then. It's not even new for Arsenal - why do you think there were so many draws and 1-0s in the Invincibles season? Everyone was sh*t scared of getting pumped so they began setting up to make it as difficult as possible. It happened to Chelsea last season so they bought Fabregas. It happened to Madrid so they bought Modric. Arsenal have more than enough quality to unpick packed defences (hence 10 shots on target) but it won't go your way every time. No need for the constant re-evaluation and handwringing just because you had an off night after a great run. Simon CFC

Liverpool's Champions League failure will see Raheem Sterling quit, says Phil Thompson

Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson believes Brendan Rodgers’ side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League will see Raheem Sterling quit Anfield this summer. Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at champions Chelsea all but ended their chances of qualification for next season’s Champions League and Thompson believes failure to qualify will prompt Sterling to leave. And he insists he doesn’t see the 20-year-old’s future as a striker no matter where he ends up. "Chelsea had Cahill, Matic and Cuadrado coming on for them – three established internationals." Phil Thompson He told Sky Sports: “I think it will be very difficult for him to stay at Liverpool now. He’s shown all the signs that he’s ready and prepared to leave the club. “But if he was to stay I would like to think his role will be on the flanks – I don’t think Liverpool can even contemplate him being their main striker next season, because he’s not a natural goalscorer. “Liverpool need somebody who’s going to get you at least 15 league goals and maybe 25 overall – Raheem Sterling is not going to get you that. “He’s done well for the team – he’s helped them out up front this season, but I think everyone can see that he’s not quite strong enough for it. “So, no matter where he is next season, I think his best role is out wide rather than through the middle.” Meanwhile, Thompson believes the difference in squad depth between Liverpool and champions Chelsea was clearly evident during Sunday’s draw at Stamford Bridge. The Reds needed to win in order to cling on to their hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League, but they could only manage a point. Although Liverpool were competitive throughout the game, the gap between the pair remains 22 points, and Thommo highlighted Rodgers’ substitutions when trying to win the game.

We compare Sergio Aguero to Premier League's top strikers

Ahead of Sunday's Sky Live clash between Manchester City and QPR, we take a closer look at how the hosts' star striker - and Premier League's top scorer - Sergio Aguero compares with the league's other leading frontmen... Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler exclaiming “Aguerooooo!” as the Argentina ace fired Manchester City to their first-ever Premier League title with a last-gasp winner against QPR back in 2012 can be considered one of the most iconic moments in English top-flight history. This weekend, the two teams meet at the Etihad once more, though it is the visitors who have more to play for this time around. Manchester City v QPR Manchester City 2/9 Draw 5/1 QPR 9/1 Football Betting Bet £5 Get £20 Free The away side need a win or will drop out of England’s top tier and back into the Championship. However, only two teams have achieved that result at City’s home ground this season – and an in-form Sergio Aguero – the Premier League’s top goalscorer, who scored two against QPR earlier this season – will make that task even harder. Aguero's magic moment against QPR in 2012 Aguero's magic moment against QPR in 2012 Aguero has scored five in his last four, including a superb finish to sink Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, and with 22 to his name this season, now only needs one more goal to match his best return since joining Man City in 2011. Chelsea may already have won the title, but the explosive frontman remains in the hunt to secure the Golden Boot award for the first time since moving to the two-time Premier League champions. Aguero is not alone in the quest for the accolade, however. Tottenham’s Harry Kane (20 goals), Chelsea’s Diego Costa (19), QPR’s Charlie Austin (17) and Arsenal’s Alexis Sánchez (16) will all look to run the City star close for the award between now and the end of the season.

David de Gea 'move' to Real Madrid could depend on Iker Casillas, says Graham Hunter

The ball is in Real Madrid's court regarding any potential transfer for Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, says Graham Hunter. The La Liga side have been linked with the 24-year-old Spaniard over recent months, with his contract expiring at Old Trafford next summer. But Hunter says Real now have to make a decision on the future of current goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who has won five La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns in his 16 years at the Bernabeu. Revista De La Liga pundit Hunter said: "My opinion is that Real Madrid want to sign David de Gea but, equally, don't particularly fancy the furore of the Spain No 1 and No 2 either sharing the Liga, Copa Del Rey and Champions League games like Diego Lopez and Casillas did last season. De Gea has excelled for United this campaign "They also don't want the constant speculation over whether De Gea and Casillas, if at the same club, work well together, fall out and so on. "If Madrid are determined to prise De Gea away from Manchester United then the ball is definitely back in their court now." De Gea's fine performances for Manchester United since signing from Real's rivals Atletico in 2011 have made him one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the world.
